Writing Beyond Formats – Synergies Between Games and TV-Series

With titles like 'The Last of Us', 'Arcane: League of Legends', and 'Avatar', the boundaries between games and series fiction are blurring. But what are the differences in writing processes? How does one become proficient in both formats, and how can you optimize your intellectual property (IP)? Immerse yourself in the worlds of games and series as The National Film School of Denmark, in collaboration with the European Writers Club (EWC), welcomes influential voices from both industries to a seminar day focusing on the interplay between these two distinct writing processes.

Video games have long surpassed the film industry in revenue worldwide, and although film and TV series producers have sought to capitalize on video game IPs for some time, it is only with titles like 'Fallout' and 'The Last of Us' that they have truly succeeded artistically and with a large audience.

The European Writers Club and the National Film School of Denmark invite you to a seminar where we will explore the synergies in the creative processes. What are the differences and similarities between writing for different formats, and how can we leverage an IP across multiple platforms? We'll also examine how Danish game IPs can be adapted into TV formats.

Industry figures such as Keld Reinicke, Media Advisor, writer Soni Jorgensen ('It Takes Two'), Odin Schafer ('Ghost Recon' and 'Bourne Ultimatum'), and Aoife O'Friel ('Avatar') will provide exclusive insights into the ever-changing gaming landscape, the merging of TV series and video games, and will identify the differences and similarities for screenwriters in the writing process for both media.

Odin Schafer writes games for the French game company Ubisoft and boasts extensive experience in writing for both TV series and video games. His credits include 'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: OVR' for Ubisoft and TV series such as 'The Walking Dead' for AMC, 'Siberia' for NBC, as well as 'Powers', 'Monster Town', and 'The Bourne Ultimatum' for Sony.

Panelists Soni Jorgensen, Aoife O'Friel, and Christian Fonnesbech, Founder & Head of IP Development at Leverage Partnership, will delve into topics ranging from narrative design to industry partnerships and the optimal use of IP. They will also share their visions for synergies between the two industries.
