Mastering AI for European Film Professionals

The Mastering AI for European Film Professionals program is tailored for industry professionals eager to master the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the audiovisual industry. It is an intensive executive training initiative spanning over nine months. Led by industry expert Sten Saluveer, this five-module course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate and innovate in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

The National Film School of Denmark, Filmforward, Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, and The Norwegian Film School present Mastering AI for European Film Professionals.

Through a string of comprehensive modules, participants will explore the impact of AI on creative storytelling, iterative learning, practical applications of AI tools, and strategic network development that enhances international and interdisciplinary knowledge sharing.

The program balances concentrated on-site modules with flexible online engagement and mentorship, the program ultimately enhances the participants ability to leverage AI as a creative and productive tool in filmmaking.

Structure of the Mastering AI for European Film Professionals programme:

Module 1: AI Foundations & Change Management

Dates:

January 16-18, 2026

Location/Format:

Onsite - Copenhagen, Denmark (The National Film School of Denmark)

Goal:

To establish a common understanding of the AI landscape, its implications for the European AV sector, and the principles of managing the organisational and personal change AI necessitates.

Key Topics & Activities:

  • Day 1: Program introduction; Deep dive into the Global/EU AI Value Chain; Participant project/challenge introductions; Visit to local AI ecosystem player for real-world context; Networking dinner.
  • Day 2: Workshop on Principles of Change Management in AI context, addressing resistance, fostering adoption, leadership strategies.
  • Day 3: Session on "The Big Picture: Industry Transformation"; Participant team workshops focusing on applying change management concepts to their contexts; Feedback discussions.
Module 2: Mastering Power Prompting & Creative Applications: Short Film Production

March 13-15, 2026

Location/Format:

Online

Goal:

To equip participants with practical skills in utilizing Generative AI tools effectively and ethically across the AV creative workflow, focusing on prompt engineering and application in short-form content creation.

Key Topics & Activities:

Daily (Fri-Sun): Optional Morning Yoga for wellbeing & mental health.

  • Day 1: Understanding Generative AI basics; Workshop on Advanced Prompting Techniques for Film Production.
  • Day 2: AI in Writing & Screenplay Development; AI in Production & Post-Production Workflows.
  • Day 3: Participant team workshops; applying prompting techniques to develop concepts for AI-assisted short films; Presentation of concepts.
Module 3: Ethics and Legal Perspectives

June 12-14, 2026

Location/Format:

Online

Goal:

To provide a thorough understanding of the critical ethical considerations and the evolving European legal framework (especially the EU AI Act) surrounding AI use in the creative industries.

  • Day 1: Deep dive into AI Ethics in Creative Industries; Case studies on Managing Synthetic AI Sound & Licensing.
  • Day 2: Analysis of the Legal Framework & Copyright Considerations; Workshop on Data Licensing Models within a European Ethical AI Framework.
  • Day 3: Case Study on Data Privacy & Responsible AI Use in a film project context; Participant team workshops applying ethical/legal frameworks to scenarios.
Module 4: Business Applications and Development for Ethical AI in Europe

September 10-13, 2026

Location/Format:

Onsite - Amsterdam, Netherlands,(FilmForward)

Goal:

To explore strategic business applications of AI, focusing on innovation, efficiency, new business models, and marketing within the European context, while showcasing ethical AI talent and implementation strategies.

  • Day 1: Workshop on Business Model Innovation for Audiovisual with AI, featuring case studies; Visit to local AI studios for practical insights; Participant feedback session.
  • Day 2: Session on AI Implementation Strategies for Businesses; European AI Artist showcase; Workshop on AI-driven Marketing for Film & Content.
  • Day 3: Participant team workshops focusing on developing AI-driven business concepts or implementation plans for their projects.
Module 5: Sustainability, Sales and Marketing & Final Presentations

November 17-21, 2026

Location/Format:

Onsite - Tallinn, Estonia (Integrated with Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event)

Goal:

To integrate AI considerations into financing, marketing, and sustainability practices, culminating in the presentation of participant projects to industry professionals and a final reflection.

Key Topics & Activities:

  • Day 1: Session on Financing & Benchmarking using AI & Data-Driven Tools; Workshop on advanced AI Marketing Strategies for the AV sector.
  • Day 2: Workshop on Utilizing AI for Industry Greening & Sustainability; Final project preparation and rehearsals.
  • Day 3: Final Project Presentations to mentors and invited industry guests from I@T&BE; Graduation Ceremony.
  • Day 4: Final Feedback and Reflection Session; Graduation Lunch; Opportunity to attend PÖFF Closing Gala featuring AI talent showcase.

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for validated European audiovisual professionals (producers, directors, writers, DOPs, distributors, exhibitors, financiers, executives, heads of department, technology & VFX leads, policymakers, educators) with a minimum of five years of proven industry experience. The program seeks individuals in positions to influence strategic decision-making and implement learned practices within their organisations or projects.

To ensure inclusivity, particularly for participants from countries with limited access to professional development funding, up to six participants affiliated with LCC or from will receive full scholarships to cover the participation fee.
